The tried-and-true rock & roll trio from Athens that goes by the name of Distortion Tamers strikes again! Their third record, a very special 7” vinyl titled Suicide Nation, is being released jointly by Anazitisi Records and Athens Mood Records on September 28 in 300 copies, 100 of which will be uniquely packaged, numbered, blue vinyl collectors’ items.
Suicide Nation constitutes a natural follow-up to the Tamers’ previous record, the E.P Faith in You – for one thing, the line-up remains the same: Kosta A. Monk on guitars and vocals, Alex K.on bass and backing vocals, and Silver on drums. But here they are moving things one step forward: the new seven-inch contains what could be easily described as the band’s most mature and thoughtful work to date, something which becomes clear on first listen. Going easy on the gas pedal, putting aside their trade mark high-octane rhythms and sounds for the time being, Distortion Tamers now focus on simple, pure-bred rock & roll instrumentation and vocals. The contemplation of a self-destructive society and its causes in the first song (Suicide Nation), and the longing for escape to a land of blue flames and grey roses in the second (Where The Poison Heals), are described and expressed in a manner both immediate and sincere.
Suicide Nation comes as a living proof of the band’s quality, and their ability to move freely inside the whole wide range of rock & roll, a showpiece for their consistent songwriting and performing skills.
This then is Distortion Tamers’ third record: one more stop on a trip that started with their first live appearance some five years ago - a marvellous, ongoing trip for all of us.
