Greeks, Drug Free Youth’s second album “The avocado index” takes the bedroom Brian Wilson pop psych to a cavernous, sci-fi influenced, Phil Spector of the month level.
Building bridges from the 60’s to the 90’s and then infinity by bending time with walls of echo, reverb & distortion plus some terrific spaced out farfisa playing, wise use of theremin and mini compact keys interludes Drug Free Youth in this album finally achieves to deconstruct space and time in a way that makes sci-fi sound like a kids joke compared to the insanely beautiful landscapes of outer space exploration created here.
We’ve been offered a timeless collage of sounds consisting of weird yet charming, Broadcast like minimal analog synth creepy pop intermissions, Phosphene weird electronic soundscapes, dirty 60’s acid punk obsessions and a “Strawberry Alarm Clock jamming with Chocolate Watchband in the back room” dreamy atmosphere which creates a remote but vivid ambience soaked with acid drenched childhood dreams followed by a déjà vu futuristic felling. Awkward at times like the twisted comfort of suspense the “have I been here before?” question brings to us.
