The British band ZZEBRA developed 1974, when Terry Smith (guitar) and Dave Quincey (Saxophone) from the shortly before splitted Jazzrockband IF band came together with Laissi (Loughty) Amao (Saxophone, Flute) of ASIBISA. The ex-LOVE AFFAIR August Eadon (Vocals, Keyboards) as well as Liam Genockey (Drums) and John McCoy (Bass) joined the band and thus a new supergroup for the international music press was born. In fact the sound of ZZEBRA definitely was new, the melange of Jazzrock and Artrock with a decent shot of Nigerian Folkmusic has’nt been there before in this quality. Afro Prog was the musical heading of the perpelexed music press.
The musicians cooked such a hot sound who especially during live concerts peaked into pulsing jam sessions. During such intensive stage-performances the songs for the records developed. 1974 Polydor published the Debutalbum ZZEBRA, which after henceforth 38 years since Sireena Records arose, will be re-published on Vinyl. Like it is typical for the Northgerman Qualityforge – with 180g of heavy Vinyl. For the perfect sound again Marlon Klein (Dissidenten) in his Exil Studio was responsible.
