SUNDAY FUNNIES - S/T
[LP]    LABEL: RARE EARTH
33.00EUR

Another of the many struggling club-bands that were trying to get a toe-hold in the Detroit area. They were "discovered" by Larry Feldman (Russ Gibb's partner in the Grande Ballroom) who was managing the Rationals. Larry found the group playing the Rathskeller, and brought the Rationals in to hear the band and offer their opinions. After debuting in 1970 with "Heavy Music," issued on the local Hideout label, the quartet signed with Rare Earth to issue their organ dominated self-titled debut LP a year later (the album on offer here), as well as 1972's Benediction, (both produced by Andrew 'Loog' Oldham), before splitting. Speaking of Andrew Loog Oldham... an instance of his "production" style: Oldham brought in a rather young teen-age girl for some vocals with the lead singer of the Sunday Funnies. He had the young girl sit on a stool. He then asked for a microphone to be lowered until it was between the girls legs. He then had the singer get on his knees so that he was singing directly to a spot in between the girl's legs (all this with the girl's mother was in the control room looking rather concerned.) Hear the results of such mayhem! Sealed gatefold orginal, with minor cut-out notch. Also one copy EX+(vinyl)/VG+(cover) for 20Euros
